Alicia S. Cook is a multilingual journalist currently based in Sydney, New South Wales.
Over the past decade Alicia has travelled widely and lived in Japan, Portugal, Sri Lanka, and Mexico- her second home. As her collection of travel stories evolved, so too did her work, which explores environmental, cultural, and socio-political themes.
Alicia has worked for local and international publications and media organisations such as Active Gaming Media, Capital Media, and The Bendigo Times. Her work has also been published in The Guardian Australia and Nonsense Newsletter.
In 2023 Alicia joined the Melbourne Press Club and took part in their mentoring program for early career journalists.
She was the producer and host of Currents, a community breakfast radio show formerly hosted on Phoenix FM in early 2024. Currents featured local and national artists and politicians and curated news segments.
Alicia has also hosted literary events and panel discussions all over the world, including weekly poetry event In the shadow of a castle, in Lisbon, Portugal. More recently she led a Q&A session with filmmaker Mitch Nivalis for the 2024 Bendigo Queer Film Festival.
In addition to her continued work as a correspondent, Alicia regularly self-publishes in the form of personal narrative essays on her Substack, The Blue. She is also a prolific photographer and frequently uses original images throughout her work.
